Bobblecod / Piezoelectric Gumball Transducer Contact Microphone
The Bobblecod is a teeny tiny spheroid audible entity that draws inspiration from our youth; memories of department store gum ball machines that would deliver toys in a plastic globe with a mere 25 cents and the turn of a crank. That unknown variable - what the gum ball machine could potentially reveal - probably has a lot of parallels with our own interests and inventions working with sound. As a result, we decided to merge the piezo transducer with the gum ball enclosure, with the hope that the unknowables continue!
The Bobblecod features the same, small-but-mighty 18mm piezo as our Plug ME Contact Microphone, and is terminated with a 3.5mm jack. A pinch of silicone is added to the piezo element for a little extra protection from bumps and bruises. The gum ball enclosure measures just over an inch in diameter.
Like all our contact microphones, the Bobblecod is a plug-and-play device. Despite its diminutive stature it sounds great with effects pedals & guitar amps, giving voice to all sorts of found objects, frottage, and even serving as a palm-sized lofi vocal mic. Synthesists might find that wiggling the Bobblecod around can trigger voltage in a modular system. Incidentally, doing likewise will turn the Bobblecod into a cat's latest plaything.
The following is a quick demo to wet the whistle, testing the Bobblecod out on our workshop amplifier.
And here we have the Bobblecod encountering some suburban street sweeper bristles and a tape measure, all processed through a small distortion pedal setup.
Like our other products, the Bobblecod ships within 2 weeks upon receiving payment. Cables and adapters are not included.
